The Postal Services Act 2000, says, Royal Mail is required to provide a Universal Service for its regulated products to all addresses in the United Kingdom at an affordable, uniform tariff at least once a day, six days a week including Saturdays, which tend to finish by mid-day. Royal Mail has no power to change this as it is a statutory obligation and it would require a change to the legislation. So although it is called the Universal Post Office, it is actually down to Royal Mail and not infact the Post Office Counters as we know it. The Post office now offers services like, credit cards with low interest, and insurance and travel serves, as well as the well known currency exchange services, with no commission. Lately it has launched a popular telephone and broadband service, with a host of celebrities pushing it on tv and radio.
